Conservation, Restoration, Valorisation: from Reflection to Practice.
Co-organised by the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Lille (largest French university and in the top 100 European most innovative universities of the Times Higher Education ranking) and the International Academy (summer university for international students in Hauts-de-France), the research-oriented summer school EMMEH 2024 is a strong 60-hour training programme focusing on the conservation, restoration, and valorisation of cultural heritage situated in the region of North Africa bordering the Mediterranean Sea, in the Middle East and in Europe. Particular emphasis will be laid on preventive conservation, archaeology and excavation sites, climate change and its impact on heritage, new forms of museological mediation – with a strong accent on the renewable development goal.
Student projects will be guided throughout the programme by a constant reflection on innovation and new ways of looking at the future of heritage to meet future climatic, technological and societal challenges. The summer school will take into account all types of innovative methods linked to an entrepreneurial vision, economic sustainability, digital development, and open communication related to heritage.
Midway between Paris, London and Brussels, at the heart of a high-performance academic and economic hub that makes innovation a priority, EMMEH 2024 will provide high-standard English-taught classes, scientific immersion in the field, as well as an introduction to research through a supervised project.

Supported by local research and training facilities (two Master’s degrees: Art History, Heritage and Museums, and Archaeology and Ancient Worlds – part of the Graduate Programme Changing cultures, societies, practices), EMMEH 2024 will be linked to the Erasmus Mundus project IN.DA.CO. (to be submitted in 2025 by Università Degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo with the University of Lille and 10 European and Mediterranean partners).

5 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits pertaining to the completed assessments and a personalised Certificate of Completion will be awarded to the students to authenticate their participation.
